I reaaally enjoyed this piece. It was nice to really get to physical terms with Spacedog. Also, there's an airshark in the background, which is fun. You may notice that this is the same rec deck I drew Sascha and Mishka and Troi on in an older picture.
Art wise, I didn't fluff her fur because I didn't want to over do it. However, her wings are pretty weak and her feathers quite downy, so I fluffed them TO THE MAX lol.
Spacedog is a bioengine. In the future humans leave earth for new terraformed worlds, and joined the interplanetary community where many other species have developed, including the Felix and the regal Aangsbok. In the further reaches of space, before Humans began to really leave earth, they discovered a planet which they called Cradle. Cradles native beasts were supremely powerful, the basis for the bio engine, and several specimens were sent back to earth. Their dna was smashed to bits by scientists, reprogrammed, experiemented on, and several new subspecies were created, some mindblowingly unstable. There were giant creatures, very close to the originals, called Imperials, which were used for terraforming, long distance and government craft. Next were the smaller Vents, who mediated between the humans and Imperials. Hoppas were short lived, terribly quick and dangerous one man beasts whose sheer energy capacity made them able to project a forcefield. Then there were several different varieties of a smaller engines developed, for smaller craft, but these were highly specialised and very expensive. Spacedog's species was never named, because only one litter were ever produced. These creatures were too much like Vents to be successful engines. Once the limiters and inhibitors to ensure compliance and control were inflicted upon them, most of them chose to die. Some caved in and obeyed, most were medocre. Spacedog chose none of these options, and did nothing. Eventually she was sold to a small merchant, who, even through shock therapy, could get nothing from her. Eventually, limiters and inhibitors still paralysing her, trapping her within her body, she was dumped, and Troi found her on Taureen, being sold by a junk meat saler. Troi persuaded the man that he was buying her to feed S&M, and took her back aboard. He took off the limiters and inhibitors and turned her back into hat she was born to be- freewilled and impertinent. However, she owed her freedom to Troi, so she asked how she could pay for his help. He replied that he hadn't fixed her anyway, and she was free to go. However, the ship was in desperate peril of falling out of the sky, with a cheap captain and an ancient engine, so Spacedog agreed to stay, for at least a while, and power the ship. Captain Ariel was very agreeable to this, and it helped Troi rise in his favour, since Fuel was no longer an issue, and all they had to do was repair the engine. ^^
Spacedog is pretty introverted and has a fierce temper, but she has her soft moments. ^^
Yaaay
EDIT: Have redone some of the shading. However, my screen is busted, so I have NO IDEA if this has helped any. Sorry about that.

SHE. And unfortunatley she is based on my writing, and the rec deck of she ship looks like that. She doesn't fit in at all on the ship, since it's a bit grubby and everyone is a bit rundown and she is so shiny and clean.
I take it you're still high lol

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
